Hey Everyone!

We want to share some important updates on the TeamSpeak 6 Server Beta and explain a few of the areas we are focusing on right now. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to leave feedback so far. Whether it has been positive, critical, or somewhere in between, it helps us a lot.

License Duration Extended

First, the 32-Slot Beta License has been extended and will now be valid until November 1, 2025, giving everyone enough time to continue testing and exploring. During the Beta, we believe renewing the license every two months is the best way to keep things organized and ensure everyone stays on the latest version.

To use the updated license and server, visit the GitHub Release here: v6.0.0-beta6

Supporting Veterans / TeamSpeak OGs

TeamSpeak has been around for a long time (we’re getting old…), and we know it’s our veteran users and long-time communities who helped build it into what it is today. Your support over the years has kept the platform alive and growing, and we want to properly recognize that.

With the release of the TeamSpeak 6 Server, we are planning to give something back. A big part of this will focus on licensing, where we are working on ways to offer special treatment for veteran users and long-time license holders. This might include special licenses, discounts, loyalty rewards, early access to new features, or other perks that reflect your long-term support.

Nothing is finalized yet, but we want you to know that the people who have supported TeamSpeak for many years will be at the top of the list when it comes to receiving something in return.

Addressing Licensing Issues

Another important topic that we need to address is licensing issues within the TeamSpeak ecosystem. As many of you know, anyone has been able to download the TeamSpeak Server from our website, self-host it, and run a 32-Slot Free Server, without any form of registration or providing any information to us. These servers are completely anonymous, and in most cases, we have no visibility of their existence.

While this level of freedom and anonymity made it easy for people to set up their own servers, it also led to a situation where TeamSpeak Servers could be operated on a large scale without proper licensing or any support for the platform. This is not sustainable in the long term, and with the TeamSpeak 6 Server, we are working to change that.

To gain a clearer understanding of how the default license is being used and to take initial steps toward preventing misuse, the TeamSpeak 6 Server now includes a built-in reporting mechanism for instances running with the default license. This reporting is shared exclusively with TeamSpeak and is never shared with any third parties.

The reporting includes the following data: the server’s IP address, the configured and used slot count, the virtual server ID (vserver ID), and the TeamSpeak Server version in use. These insights enable us to better assess actual usage patterns, address potential abuse early, and guide future improvements to the product. At this stage, reporting is optional, but in the future, it will become part of the standard setup, so we can keep supporting the community with the highest quality of service.

Proper licensing will help ensure that server usage is legitimate and sustainable, while still protecting your privacy and giving you full control over your own server environment. The goal is not to make things harder for users, but to protect the long-term future of TeamSpeak.

We will share more about how we plan to improve the licensing system in future announcements.

Licensing and Pricing Still in Progress

The exact licensing model, pricing, and distribution for the TeamSpeak 6 Server are still being worked on. Beta Testing is helping us better understand what is needed and where we can and should improve. As mentioned earlier, we will share more information in upcoming announcements as we continue to work on this.

Thank you for all your feedback and ongoing support!
